The Masai Mara, vast grassland teeming with animals, has an astonishing amount and mixture of game, including lions, cheetahs and at certain times of the year, the wildebeest migration. Lake Nakuru National Park has an incredible variety of birds as well as a healthy population of rhinos.

The Migration is a recent phenomenon (the ’60s and ’70s was the biggest boom) with about 250,000 Individuals. Gradually, with time the number has risen to the current population of over 3,000,000 Individuals. Add to it an estimated 1,500,000 Zebras, and the result is one of the most magnificent scenes in the world. The massive display attracts hundreds of big cats as the populations provide abundant prey. The giant African crocodiles lie in wait, patiently, as the big herds come to cross the river or to drink.

What to Expect on 10 Days Wildebeest Migration Safari Package

In late June to July, the mass starts pouring into the Kenya Masai Mara reserve where fresh, tender and mineral-rich grass is already waiting. Here they meet the resident Mara populations which add up to about 150,000. Also commonly referred to as the Loita plains herds, they spend most of the season northeast of the Mara. When it gets dry, they pour into the interior of the Mara in search of greener pastures.

Day 1 Arrive in Nairobi

A spectacle worth seeing is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle from Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and the Mara River to reach Masai Mara grazing fields from late June. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed from early July to October. Day 6Masai Mara – Lake Nakuru National park

Breakfast then drive Lake Nakuru National park- to arrive in good time for lunch at Flamingo hill lodge afternoon game drives the scenic park famed for numerous species of birdlife especially the pink flamingoes. dinner and overnight stay at Flamingo Hill Lodge Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population as one of the world’s greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, there are a considerable number of animals to be encountered, such as many large game animals such as zebras, elephants, and gazelles, this is one of our best chances of seeing rhinos. Lake Nakuru National Park was the first place in Kenya selected as a rhino reserve. Here is one of the few places where we can see Rothschild’s giraffes.

Day 7Lake Nakuru - Sweet waters Game Reserve

After breakfast, we depart to Sweetwaters game reserve arriving in time for lunch. Game drives here reveal the full range of African wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, and hippo. Enjoy a private visit with the tame animals at the wildlife orphanage. Observe chimps from the Jane Goodall Institute at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Optional activities include walking safaris escorted by a local ranger, bird walks with several hundred species to observe, horseback and camel rides. Day 8Sweet waters Game Reserve - Samburu National Park

Early breakfast at your hotel, short game en-route, Leave sweetwaters for Samburu pass the equator to Samburu land. arriving with a short game drive in time for lunch and check-in at Sopa Lodge have lunch and relax. In the afternoon we go watching crocodiles basking on the muddy riverbanks and velvet monkeys frolicking in the Sun. Samburu Park has unique resident wildlife species like the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, and the Blue legged Somali Ostrich. Dinner and overnight at Sopa Lodge.

Day 9Samburu National Park

Morning and afternoon game drives set you in search of unique northern Kenya species such as the reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, and the long-necked gerenuk. Much of the reserve consists of the desert landscape – dusty red plains broken by thorny scrub, featuring dramatic views of tabletop Mt Ol Olokwe on the horizon. Accommodation at SOPA Samburu Lodge on Full Board Basis.

Day 10Samburu National Park - Nairobi

Early Morning breakfast at your lodge check out of the lodge and park and Drive to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch. Lunch at carnivore afterwards drop off at Airport for flight Back Home.
