That being said, there are no parts on the route that require any technical climbing skills. Accommodation on Machame Route is basically in tents and we traverse trekking routes that have diverse mountain vegetation with picturesque scenery ending up at Uhuru Peak, also known as the roof of Africa – Mount Kilimanjaro being Africa’s tallest free standing mountain. The total Machame route distance is approximately 62 kilometers from gate to gate.
The 8 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Hiking Machame Route is also known as the Whiskey route, given its reputation for being a tough climb, in contrast to the easier Marangu route, which is known as the Coca Cola route. Unlike the gradual incline and hut accommodations found on the Marangu Route, the climbers on Machame hike steeper trails, for longer distances, while sleeping in tents.
