The Rwenzori Mountains are the biggest mountain range in Africa, including six main mountains with peaks exceeding 4.500 m. of altitude: Mt. Stanley, Mt. Speke, Mt. Baker, Mt. Gessi (in the Congolese side), Mt. Emin Pasha. Mt. Luigi di Savoia. They are found along the border between Uganda and Congo for over 120 km. The highest peak is Margherita, 5.109 m. on Mt. Stanley. It is named after the Italian Queen Margherita, who sponsored the first climbing expedition of the Rwenzori in June 1906, led by Prince Luigi Amedeo of Savoy the Duke of Abruzzi. The name Rwenzori in the local language means mountain of the rain, for its rainy nature.

Uganda Mountain Hiking -Mount ElgonSituated in the eastern Uganda in the borders of Uganda and Kenya, Mt Elgon is yet another interesting mountain to hike. The mountain stands at 4321m above sea level and is the 8th highest peak in Africa yet the 4th highest in East Africa. Mt Elgon was at once one of Africa’s highest peaks but the continuous erosion have reduced its height to its current.
These are three conical extinct volcanic mountains in Mgahinga gorilla national park sharing borders with the neighboring Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. They are part of the 8 volcanoes, which make up a chain of the Virunga volcanoes.
Situated in kapchorwa district Eastern Uganda just in the foothills of Mount Elgon, Sipi falls is worth hiking. The fall is a composition of three stunning waterfalls, which originate from the hot springs at the summit of Mount Elgon in the border of Uganda and Kenya. Sipi falls fall roughly 85 meters over the cliff continuing with its course through farmlands and local communities over small rocks to form rapids.
